Inspired by the theme of this year's juried textile exhibition - Under the Surface - Joy Evitt, from Norfolk's Costume and Textile Association (C&TA), presents a free online talk on corsets, or 'stays' as they have also been known.
Joy looks at the early beginnings of corset-wearing in dress history, charting the undergarment's journey through time to its excess in Victorian times, and onto the modern fashion of wearing corsets as outer garments.
Joy is the former chair of the C&TA, is passionate about all aspects of costumes and textiles. With 40 years of teaching under her belt, she has a depth of knowledge that she enjoys sharing.
