Experiment with natural dyes.

Textile artist Jennifer Monahan demonstrates the art and craft of natural dyeing with plants, focusing on weld, madder and indigo.

Weld produces a wide range of brilliant lemon yellows. Madder produces a variety of reds. And blue dye is extracted from the leaves of the indigo plant.

Jenn will provide pre-mordanted fabric squares so you can experiment with the prepared dyes.

There is so much history, chemistry, artistry (and perhaps a bit of magic) involved in natural dying and Jenn can answer your questions.

Jenn started the Fibreworkshop in 2014, creating a sustainable, environmentally respectful and inclusive business.

Jenn also hand knits vintage items for stage and screen. You may have seen her work in The Darkest Hour, 1917, Little Women and BBC's Small Axe.
