Exploring self image and isolation through collage.

In addition to coping with a global pandemic and lockdown, deaf people had to contend with face masks, which make lip reading impossible, all of which contributed to a greater feeling of isolation.

In response to this The Nest Project delivered a series of virtual workshops specifically for deaf and hard of hearing people.

In the workshops, participants learnt about colour, pattern and collage to help them to create a lockdown self portrait of themselves and their personal lockdown experience.

Their work is on display in The Gallery with an accompanying film explaining in more detail each participants unique view of lockdown.

The Nest Project is led by Eco-Artists Rebekah Boone and Claire Gebbett.  Its aims...

  • create art and sculpture (usually outside and with natural or recycled materials)
  • work with groups, schools and marginalised communities in creative collaboration
  • provide arts experiences at festivals, exhibitions, fetes, parties or celebrations
  • prepare bespoke workshops or art installations for our clients
